An osprey flies against a blue sky.

Just like people, birds flock to Sebastian Inlet to play and socialize in the Florida sunshine.

Sebastian Inlet State Park is a perfect destination for birders of all experience levels.

Diversity of Habitats

Sebastian Inlet State Park protects a number of different habitats that provide the unique food, water, shelter and space needs for many different bird species. Large wading birds require an abundance of fish and shallow water, while migratory songbirds look for a dense canopy to hide and rest on their journey. Check out the map of the park for birding locations and highlights.

Recreation Recommendations

When you visit a park, you are visiting someone else’s home. The birds of Sebastian Inlet State Park use these grounds to feed their family, restore their energy and find refuge from threats.

Check out the following recommendations for ways you can protect Sebastian Inlet’s birds:

  • For campers: Help us keep the park beautiful and save a bird by keeping an eye out for litter.
  • For anglers: Learn to unhook. If you accidentally hook a pelican or other bird, don’t cut the line! The hook will stay in place and can cause serious lifelong injuries. Instead, watch a simple video to learn how you can save a life. And remember, birds can find their own food so there is no need to feed them.
  • For beach goers: Please don’t chase or scare shorebirds. They may have flown thousands of miles to get here and need to save their energy.
  • For pet owners: We love your pet. Unfortunately for a bird, your furry friend looks a lot like a predator. Please follow all pet regulations at the park, including keeping pets in designated areas and on a leash.

Join the Community

Sebastian Inlet State Park has its very own eBird page, where visitors can share bird sightings! If you’re new to birding, this is a great way to learn common species and keep an eye out for rare sightings.
