Lake Overstreet Trails

hike, walk, bicycle, bike, run, running

The Lake Overstreet Trails are a thriving trail system showcasing the unique topography of North Florida. The Lake Overstreet addition to Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park was acquired in 1994. With 877 acres, including a scenic 144-acre freshwater lake, the property is part of the Maclay-Phipps Cultural Heritage Greenway. The gently sloping hills and ravines characterize the uplands portion of the property, a characteristic more often seen in Georgia, than in Florida.

When starting out on your adventure, there are two main trailheads through which you can enter – the first in Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park and the other on North Meridian Road at the Forest Meadows Park.

In the Lake Overstreet areas there are five miles of trails which can be used for a variety of activities. Walk, run or bike along the paths through the forest, under lofty live oaks, on old roads where hundreds of years of history took place. Additional charm is added to the trail by the delicate wildflowers that dot the trails and the placid Lake Overstreet. The completely undeveloped lake sits quietly secluded within the forest and is teeming with fish and other wildlife. Take a break along the shore and simply take in all that nature has to offer.

Apart from the Lake Overstreet area, there is another portion which consists of nearly six miles of off-road, single-track mountain biking trails. These trails were created by the Tallahassee Mountain Bike Association and are fit for all skill levels. Feel free to challenge yourself or casually ride these scenic routes.
