Volunteer Spotlight, Bob and Sharon Cogburn

Bob and Sharon Cogburn, volunteers at Colt Creek State Park.

Bob and Sharon Cogburn began volunteering at Colt Creek State Park in 2019. In just two years, they have put in nearly 2,000 volunteer hours combined!

This dynamic duo brings many skills and talents to the team. While they both take pride in keeping the park pristine, they offer much more.

Sharon retired from a 30-year career in banking. She brings those many years of customer service, money handling skills, and professionalism to the park and helps us in our ranger station. In addition to day use fee collection, Sharon also checks in campers, answers phone calls, promotes interpretive programs, and greets every visitor with a big smile and charming personality.

Bob proudly served 21 years and retired as a Senior Master Sergeant with the U.S. Air Force. In addition to the pride he has in serving our country and 10 years spent as a warehouse manager, Bob is also proud of the years he spent volunteering for the Special Olympics and assisting with adaptive sports. Bob enjoys mowing and maintaining our 5,000-plus-acre park. Having a knack and the patience for problem solving skills, Bob works many hours ensuring that our UTVs and small engines are operational, saving the park both money and time.

The Cogburns are true ambassadors of the Florida Park Service and take the time to talk to all visitors about why they love our park.

Thank you, Bob and Sharon. We appreciate you!
