Volunteer Team of Three+ Award for Maintenance

Tim Rockwell, Mike Watson and Danny Bustos worked together as a team to restore Hugh Taylor Birch State Park’s old weathered cabins at the Elks Youth Camp, which was established in 1947. Tim brought his skills after retiring from self-employment of a screen manufacture installation company. Mike contributed a variety of construction skills, and Danny is a specialist in the electrical trade and also contributed other skills.

Tim manufactured and professionally installed custom framework and screens on the windows of the Elks Youth Camp with help from Mike. With the quality of workmanship and purchasing materials in-house, this part of the project was complete in eight weeks.

At this point, Mike left the project and Danny arrived. Tim and Danny began removing the six old porches and installing replacements. Three doors and frames were replaced and painted, and old lattice work was removed. Tim and Danny painted the new lumber beams and lattice work done by Laurie Ekstrom and Rebecca Traylor. New air conditioning units were installed in the six cabins, and the interior of each cabin was painted. Jodi Henry helped with the painting.

Overall, 886 hours were devoted to the project, which began in April and was complete by Sept. 30, 2020.
