Juan is forever diligent in keeping an eye out for obstacles in his path like this small gopher tortoise hidden in the grass.

Juan Alanis was born in the northeast coastal town of Matamoros, Mexico, and he came to the United States in 1968. While home base was Naples, Florida, Juan traveled to Western and Midwestern states seasonally working the agricultural fields of Indiana, Nebraska, Wyoming, Minnesota, Montana and California.

During the winter months, Juan would work locally at several Collier County farming companies. He accepted the seasonal field position at Collier-Seminole State Park in March 2002.

In the past 20 years, Juan has worked with 12 park managers and countless park rangers and park volunteers, seeing many changes take place from campground upgrades to construction of two new bathhouses.

Along with lawn-mowing, Juan's tasks include weed-eating, basic plumbing, construction, and transporting recyclable materials to the Marco Island recycle center.

Juan is dedicated, hard-working, always gracious and willing to help out wherever and whenever he is needed.
